合同的目的是明确参与各方的权利和义务。单词太抽象了，有很大的联想空间。为了避免理解上的误解，单词必须具体使用。

合同是一种法律文本，通常是一个限制性的短语，甚至一个词都涉及权利和义务。因此，为了使条款更准确，经常使用大量的限制性单词，句法结构也更加复杂。1)状语限制。状语可以表示时间、条件、因果关系、方式和目的，从不同方面严格限制合同各方的权益，以确保意义准确、不含糊。

中文译词:特此，所以，兹
用法:常用于法律文件、合同、协议等正式文件的开头语；也可以在条款中强调。
语法:一般放在主语后面，靠近主语.
例：
The Employer hereby covenants to pay the Contractor in consideration of the execution and completion of the Works and the remedying of defects therein the Contract Price or such other sum as may become payable under the provisions of the Contract at the time and in the manner prescribed by the Contract.
参考译文:

用法：在表示上述“本合同、本文件……”时，使用该词。例如，在表示本合同的条件和条款时，可以说“the terms, conditions and provisions hereof在这里，hereof说：“of this Contract”；另一个例子是，项目的任何部分都可以使用“any parts hereof”，hereof在这里说“”of this Works”。
语法:一般放在要修饰的名词后面，靠近。
hereof和thereof的区别:hereof强调“of this”。例如，上述“the terms, conditions and provisions thereof“thereof表示of the Contract；“any parts thereof“thereof表示of the Works。

hereto和thereto的区别:类似于hereof和thereof的区别，hereto强调“to this”。
